The Roseville Panthers shared the MAC Blue Division Title and qualified for the state playoffs last season and expect to be in the hunt again. There is also a lot of talk about community and school pride.
“We graduated a lot of good players last year, but we feel we have some tremendous athletes returning “said Coach Mike Mahar who is entering his second season as the Panther head coach.
The defense is solid with huge defensive lineman and tight ends De’Shawn Wright (who transfers from De La Salle) and Jaheim Swaizey anchoring the D.
“We are big and fast and it all begins with great defense” added Mahar.
“The kids are buying in. Not only are we trying to teach football, but also about life and community and the importance of what happens after school”said Mahar.
I want people to know that our city and school are great and we’re changing the culture” said Wright.
Quarterback Jevon Osterhout is only a junior, but plays with great confidence. His weapons will include speedsters Darrien Smith and Davon Loman.
“We went to a veer offense camp in Montrose for three days and it really brought the team together. Their getting what we’re trying to do here and that’s rewarding no matter what happens during the season” concluded Mahar.
Roseville opens the season at home vs. Detroit Delta Prep.
